Telephone Scam Alert - Don't press 9, 0, # for anyone! It will allow the caller to place long distance phone calls and bill the calls to your telephone number. The Crime Victims Assistance Program advises that individuals place telephone calls identifying themselves as AT&T, MCI, Verizon, etc., technicians. They ask the person they call to complete a test of her or his phone line by simply touching 9, 0, and # and hanging up. Don't do it!

Tired of those pesty telephone calls? Beginning in April your name can be removed from the telemarketer's lists. Call 1-800-NYS-1220 to preregister. If you want to have something done immediately, you can call 516-546-4100 and 56 percent of those calls will be eliminated.

The High School of Art & Design at 57th Street and Second Avenue seeks volunteers for their tutoring program. Call Linda Yang at 319-1700 for more information.

Skate boarding violators should beware! Captain Kevin Ward of the 17th Precinct is after them. To report a violation call 826-3211 and ask that a car be sent as soon as possible to remove the skate boarders. Be sure to get the name of the person to whom you speak and write it down, as well as the date and time. Call Captain Ward directly if you get no satisfaction from your complaint.
