BY MILLIE MARGIOTTA
George R. Bonner, Jr., former editor of the Turtle Bay Newsletter
and a director of the Turtle Bay Association, died on August 23,
I first met George when I worked at BBDO Direct in the early 80's.
He was a copywriter and I was production manager. He was the first
one to greet me when he heard I lived in Turtle Bay. He too lived
in Turtle Bay, on East 49th Street, between First and Second Avenues.
At that time we did not have an on-going newsletter and I talked
him into becoming our editor. George remained on the job for several
years, producing a quarterly newsletter and writing his column,
George loved Turtle Bay and his main focus was on the refurbishing
of Dag Hammarskjold Plaza. He worked with us for 13 years and fortunately
lived long enough to see this beautiful plaza become an oasis.
Besides Turtle Bay, we had politics in common. But neither politics
nor Turtle Bay could help George win his last bout with life.
Bye, George. Rest in Peace.
