in Turtle Bay
It has been a busy summer in Turtle Bay. Our parks have been alive
with activity and when Barbara Connolly and her Special Events Committee
took to the street for the 14th annual Turtle Bay Fair on May 28,
they came back with a check for $16,802.50.
In the MacArthur Playground, 49th Street at the East River Drive,
"The Reluctant Dragon" puppet show entertained several
hundred children with parents and nannies on July 13. The "Puppets
in the Park" production was sponsored by TBA and presented
by NYC Department of Parks & Recreation and the City Parks Foundation.
On June 14 a most exciting activity began in the refurbished Dag
Hammarskjold Plaza - a Greenmarket! Turtle Bay residents have been
feasting all summer on fresh produce from nearby farms. The Greenmarket
will be with us until Thanksgiving.
Dag Hammarskjold Plaza also played host to the celebration of
Katharine Hepburn's ninety-third birthday on May 13. In the Plaza
on June 21, more than 150 children enjoyed a morning of Kamishibai
storytelling and music. The program was presented by Friends of
Dag Hammarskjold Park and funded by the Haley Foundation. Children
were supplied by the Family School, the International Preschool,
and the Vanderbilt Y. The 17th Precinct Community Council sponsored
"Night Out Against Crime" in the Plaza on August 1.
