Thinking of our friends at the 17th Precinct ... Thinking of our friends at the 17th Precinct ...

To the Officers and Staff of the NYPD 17th Precinct,

We extend our deepest gratitude for your swift and courageous response during the tragic shootings at 345 Park Avenue on Monday evening. As we all saw the horrific events playing out live in the media, our hearts went out to the brave men and women from the 17th Precinct who were on the scene and dealing with a complete unknown. Your professionalism and bravery in the face of danger helped immensely during a time of complete terror and chaos.

We also wish to express our deep and heartfelt condolences for the loss of your fellow NYPD Officer Didarul Islam. His sacrifice is a solemn reminder of the risks law enforcement officers face every day in service to both our city and to other institutions to which they provide their valued services. Officer Islam’s dedication, courage, and selflessness will not be forgotten. Our thoughts are with his family, his colleagues, all of our 17th Precinct Officers and staff, and everyone in New York City and around the world who collectively mourn his passing.

Thank you for your continued service and for standing strong in the face of adversity. New York is safer because of you. We hope to have the opportunity to thank many of you in person at the Precinct’s Night Out Against Crime next Tuesday in Dag Hammarskjold Plaza.

With respect, appreciation, and our sincere condolences for the loss of your brother,
