Activity at two properties on Second Avenue have caught the eye of Turtle Bay residents.
At 940 Second Avenue on the corner of East 50th Street: scaffolding has been erected at this site of a former green grocer, a long-time neighborhood staple. The property, vacant since last February, is undergoing repair for a cracked facade, according to the city Department of Buildings website. However, no work permits have been filed, according to the office of Councilman Keith Powers.
At 1003-1015 Second Avenue between East 53rd and 54th Streets: permits have been filed for a 19-story mixed-use building at 1009 Second Avenue, according to the Councilman Powers office, including 29 residences expected to be condos. A completion date has not been announced.
