UN General Assembly – Street Closures

The United Nations General Assembly will begin its 73rd Session and will be in full force starting Tuesday, September 18th. The UN events in the coming weeks will directly affect life in the Turtle Bay are and also the way in which we travel around NYC.

The UN General Assembly opens on
Tuesday, September 18th
and runs through
Monday, October 1st

The opening week is largely ceremonial and administrative. The actual high level “General Debate” starts on September 25th and runs for 9 days…this is the really busy time for high security.

The theme of the general debate will be, “Making the United Nations Relevant to All People: Global Leadership and Shared Responsibilities for Peaceful, Equitable and Sustainable Societies.”

Turtle Bay will be affected in terms of traffic, parking, street closures, bus route changes, motorcades, and removal or lock-down of trash and mail receptacles.

VEHICLE STREET CLOSURES

Closures will start at approximately 6am on Tuesday , September 18th and continue to approximately 9pm on Tuesday, September 25th.

The streets most affected are:
*42nd St to 48th St on 1st Avenue
*42nd St to 47th St between 1st and 2nd Avenue
*FDR Drive service road between
48th & 49th Sts

PEDESTRIAN CHECK POINTS
Check points will start at approximately 7am to 7pm each day.

*42nd, 46th & 49th Sts on 1st Avenue
*42nd, 44th, 45th & 46th Sts on 2nd Avenue

Wednesday, May 7th, was a great night in the Bronx Wednesday, May 7th, was a great night in the Bronx! The Turtle Bay Association joined with our neighbors from Murray Hill for an evening at Yankee Stadium. The weather was perfect, the beer was cold, and a good time was had by all! To top it off, not only did the Yankees win - but the Knicks won too!
