OUR MISSION
The Turtle Bay Association was formed in 1957 in order to address the growing concerns about development and land use issues in the area of Manhattan known as Turtle Bay. Today, as its purview has broadened, it works to have a voice in surrounding land use issues, so called reasonable development, that can preserve and enhance the unique built and open spaces of Turtle Bay. It works to preserve and enhance quality of life issues that affect both the people who live and work in Turtle Bay. And it works to develop a large and active Membership in order to not only foster a meaningful sense of neighborhood, but create a strong voice in issues that come before city government and our elected officials.
The Association today not only strives to modify conditions that may erode the residential character of Turtle Bay; but tries to expand the experience of living here by acting as a bridge to all the urban resources available in the city, such as from government, civic institutions, businesses, landmarks, and especially the development of our parks and public spaces.
The Turtle Bay Association has long been committed to supporting the business community of Turtle Bay. Along those lines, we have developed, with our Turtle Bay Business Members, a discount program for our TBA membership—with a business member directory and in-store signage that not only helps build sales, but friendly customer loyalty.
For over 60 years, TBA has worked with the City and State, our elected officials, and the Community Boards to lessen the impact of new construction, and other urban projects in the area. We have worked to help establish guidelines regarding zoning, transportation, and public safety; and most importantly we have worked to develop our parks and public spaces.
